Chiefs Wrap Up Fifth In Division Spokane Picks Up 6-4 Win At Prince George

The Spokane Chiefs used three consecutive goals at the start of the third period to skate past the Prince George Cougars 6-4 Friday night in Western Hockey League action in Prince George Coliseum.

The win, Spokane’s second in a row on the road, let the Chiefs clinch fifth place in the WHL’s Western Division.

Joe Caradelli’s goal off of a John Cirjak pass 14 minutes into the third period capped the Chiefs’ rally, making the score 6-3.

Trent Whitfield started the flurry and gave Spokane its first lead with 1 minute gone in the final period with a knuckling shot past goaltender Mike Walker. Kevin Sawyer deflected Whitfield’s shot off his right shin pad and into the goal 11 minutes later to push Spokane’s lead to 5-3.

Joel Boschman scored his first WHL goal when he beat Walker to the glove side :28 into the second.

Whitfield finished with two assists to go with his goal and Jason Podollan added three assists.

The Cougars have lost 17 of their last 18.
