NIT

Craig Wise tipped in a miss at the last second to give Canisius (20-12) a 55-53 victory Monday night over Bradley (20-10) in the second round of the National Invitation Tournament in Peoria, Ill.

Bradley had tied the game at 53 with 15 seconds left on a threepointer by guard Aaron Zobrist. After a timeout, the Canisius Golden Griffins tried for their own trey.

Center Micheal Meeks missed the shot, but 6-4 forward Wise was there to put it in for the victory as the buzzer sounded.

New Mexico St. 92, UTEP 89

Rodney Walker scored 23, including three critical points in overtime, to send the Aggies (25-9) past the Miners (20-10) in El Paso, Tex.

New Mexico State will face Virginia Tech on Wednesday night.

NMSU, which missed two potential winning shots with time expiring in the second half, returned quickly in overtime with a 10-2 run that put them up 89-81 with 1:11 remaining.

Virginia Tech 91, Providence 78

Shawn Good had 21 points, four other Virginia Tech players scored in double figures and the Hokies (22-10) used a 20-5 second-half run to beat the Friars (17-13) in Providence, R.I.

Damon Watlington had 18 points, Ace Custis 17, David Jackson 14 and Shawn Smith 12 for Virginia Tech.

Marquette 70, St. Bonaventure 61

Freshman guard Aaron Hutchins scored all 12 of his points in the final 10 minutes, helping the Eagles (19-11) rally to beat the Bonnies (18-13).

Hutchins, a reserve who scored a career-high 20 points in Marquette’s first-round victory over Auburn, did all his scoring after St. Bonaventure had surged ahead 49-40 on the strength of a 20-2 run.

Ignited by Hutchins’ hustling defense (three steals) and offensive spark, the Eagles recovered to advance to the final eight, where they will face South Florida.

South Florida 75, Coppin State 59

Jerome Robinson scored 24 points and spurred a 20-4 run in the second half as the Bulls (18-11) beat the Eagles (21-10) in Tampa, Fla.
