Stevens County Releases Details Of Spray Program

From Staff Reports

Stevens County residents need to get out their hoes if they don’t want herbicides sprayed along county rights-of-way in front of their homes.

Residents who want to be excluded from the countywide spraying program that will begin in April must sign a contract agreeing to be responsible for noxiousweed control in their areas.

Those who sign contracts will get special signs showing workers where to stop and resume spraying. Other “no spray” signs will not be honored.

Another reason for honoring only approved signs is to make the work easier for the contractor who will be doing the job, Assistant Public Works Director Terry Davis said.

He noted this is the first year for the county to have a contractor spray the county’s entire 1,500-mile road system.

The spray program will be discussed in a public meeting at 7 p.m. March 29 in the council chambers at Chewelah City Hall.

To obtain “no spray” signs, go to the county Weed Board office in the Agriculture building at the intersection of U.S. Highway 395 and Williams Lake Road west of Colville or call the board at (509) 684-7590.
