Resignations In Wake Of Uranium Sale

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Washington Public Power Supply System’s chief financial officer has resigned in the wake of disclosure that an unsecured sale of uranium violated the agency’s policies, a spokeswoman confirmed Thursday.

WPPSS spokeswoman Sue Senner said the agency normally does not comment on personnel matters, but felt obligated to tell the financial community about the resignation of James Perko.

Perko - and reportedly three others - resigned this week after the Tri-City Herald noted the unsecured sale of uranium to a Denver uranium trader may have violated policies.

The uranium trader, Oren Benton, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in February, owing WPPSS $11.7 million for 440 tons of uranium hexafluoride it sold him last fall.
