Motorist Arrested After Trying To Elude Police, Ram Patrol Car

From Staff Reports

A Spokane motorist was arrested Saturday for attempting to elude police and ramming a patrol car with an officer inside, police said.

The chase started when police tried to stop a car at Garland and Atlantic shortly after 2 a.m.

Police said the driver sped west on Garland, accelerated and spun north onto Washington. Losing control, the car drove into a yard in the 3900 block of North Stevens.

As officers approached, the car suddenly accelerated and drove head-on into one of the marked patrol cars. The officer inside was not injured.

Police ordered the driver out of the car, but he refused.

Officers removed and handcuffed Lowell Dusty Burnham, 33, 501 W. Bellwood, police said.

He was taken to Holy Family Hospital for an examination and a blood test, police said.

Burnham was booked into jail for attempting to elude and two counts of second degree assault.

Both vehicles were damaged, police said.
