Warning Signs Can Indicate When Layoffs Are Looming

Chicago Tribune

Corporate downsizing shouldn’t be a surprise: There are danger signals.

Here are some of the signs you should read:

1. Your company’s strategic focus has shifted and the work you do isn’t critical to the new direction.

2. Recent technological changes in the way your work is done have made you a “dinosaur.”

3. Reorganization has shifted many of your responsibilities to others and what’s left doesn’t fill your time.

4. Your new boss has given you the first negative performance review you’ve ever had.

5. Your employer has merged with another company and your function is redundant.
