Seitzer Ok After Being Hit On Head

Associated Press

Milwaukee Brewers infielder Kevin Seitzer sustained a mild concussion Monday when he was struck in the helmet by a fastball from Minnesota pitcher Scott Erickson.

Seitzer stayed on the ground several minutes but remained conscious. He walked off the field and was examined by doctors in the clubhouse. He was then taken to a hospital, where X-rays and CT scans were negative.

It’s not immediately known how long he’ll be sidelined.

“I never saw it,” said Seitzer, who returned from the hospital after the game with a nasty bump on his left temple and a bad headache. “It hurt. It hurt a lot. I have a headache right now. I don’t like the (television) lights, either, to be honest with you.”

When a TV reporter asked him to describe the pain, he glared: “You got a sledgehammer? I’ll hit you up side the head with it and you can tell. And you’ll know exactly what it felt like.”

Last Aug. 1, Seitzer sustained multiple facial fractures when he was beaned by Melido Perez’s fastball, and missed just one game. He said he hoped to play today, but Brewers manager Phil Garner said that was out of the question.

“It was the only concern I had for the rest of the day. I don’t care about the game,” Minnesota manager Tom Kelly said. “It’s scary to see that. The way he went down the steps, you get real nervous.”
