Scabland Birds

A nifty new guide, “Birds of the Channeled Scablands of Eastern Washington,” by Maurice Vial and photographer Mark Houston, is a concise and excellent resource for birders. It includes notes and descriptions of most birds, nine color photos, illustrations and identification markings for six raptors and six sparrow species, plus a map and seasonal occurrence chart. It’s free from the Bureau of Land Management’s Spokane District, 1103 N. Fancher Rd., Spokane, WA 99212, telephone 536-1200. , DataTimes
