Novelist Barker Wins Booker Prize

Novelist Pat Barker on Tuesday won the 1995 Booker Prize for “The Ghost Road,” the final part of her trilogy about the First World War.

She had been second favorite with the bookmakers, behind Salman Rushdie for “The Moor’s Last Sigh.”

“The Ghost Road” was one of five books nominated for the $31,000 award, Britain’s most prestigious literary prize.

The other nominees were “In Every Face I Meet” by Justin Cartwright, “Morality Play” by Barry Unsworth and “The Riders” by Tim Winton.
