Pair Out Celebrating While Home Burns

From Staff Reports

Fire damaged a north Spokane home Saturday night while the couple who owned the house were out celebrating the wife’s birthday.

Flames destroyed the living room and killed Rick and Lisa Hosmer’s cat. Smoke spread throughout the house at 2917 W. Fairview, damaging the main level.

No one was home when the fire broke out. Neighbors called 911 when the fire shattered a side window about 8:20 p.m.

By the time firefighters arrived, the fire had burned itself out. Firefighters believe the fire may have burned for nearly two hours before it was noticed.

Fire investigators think a light operated by a timer started the blaze. Rick Hosmer said the light comes on nightly about 6:30 p.m.

Hosmer said he and his wife left their house about 6:15 p.m. They dropped their 21-month-old son off at his grandparents’ house and went to dinner to celebrate Lisa’s birthday. She turned 33 on Friday.

The Hosmers have lived in the house for about seven years. They are insured.
