Elise Stites Spokane

C. Elizabeth “Elsie” Stites is 100 years old today.

Mrs. Stites, a Spokane resident, was born Oct. 2, 1895, near Chattaroy, to George and Anna Maria Elise Stricker. She has lived in the Washington state her entire life.

After teaching one year in the Mount Carlton School, she married Harvey Stites on July 3, 1916, and they settled in the Greenbluff area as fruit farmers. They moved to Yakima in 1930, and two years later to Granger, in the lower Yakima Valley, where they were fruit growers. Mr. Stites died in 1953.

For the past three years, Mrs. Stites, mother of three children, has lived with her daughter, June Munroe. She has three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She attributes her longevity to living right, eating right and having good genes.
