Goodwill Industries Wins Awards From Organization

Goodwill Industries of the Inland Northwest was presented with an unprecedented nine awards from the Goodwill Industries International.

This was an “unheard-of sweep” of awards from the international organization. Inland Northwest Goodwill employees competed with those in 1,404 retail stores for the recognition.

Employees, their departments and awards were:

Michael Estrada, Coeur d’Alene Goodwill Rehabilitation Dept., won the Goodwill International Achiever of the Year Award.

Dorothy Woodbridge, Lewiston Goodwill, the Edgar J. Helms Award.

Darryl Chitwood, human resource manager, the ADA Excellence in Implementation Award.

Nadine VanStone, rehabilitation manager, Outstanding Facility-Based Rehabilitation Services Award.

Troy Dixon, employment specialist, and Jim Hose, director of human services, the Outstanding Community Based Rehabilitation Services Award.

Maxine Harris, community relations/advertising manager, Outstanding Television Spot, Outstanding Print Ad, Outstanding Brochure and Outstanding Radio Spot.

Amber Snoddy, Spokane, recently completed the general course studies in graphoanalysis, from the International Graphoanalysis Society in Chicago. She was also awarded an IGAS scholarship for graduate course studies.

Marie Cole was recently certified to provide lymphedema treatment to patients recovering from breast cancer. The condition is a swelling of the arms resulting from breast cancer surgery. Cole is a physical therapist for the Lymphedema Treatment Center at Sacred Heart Medical Center.

Carrie Havercroft, a Mead High School graduate, received a $2,000 President’s Scholarship from Eastern Washington University. She has also been accepted into EWU’s Honors Program and plans to major in psychology.

Cynthia Olson, daughter of Thomas and Linda Olson, Spokane, was a June graduate of Walla Walla College with a bachelor of science in business administration degree and a concentration in management.

Jeremy Higginson, a Gonzaga University student, had his poem, “Night-Sky Journey,” published in “East of the Sunrise,” by The National Library of Poetry.

Clayton Crowe, will receive the Fluids Engineering Award of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers during its international congress and exposition next month in San Francisco. The award is given for contributions to the engineering profession, particularly to fluids engineering through research, practice or teaching.

Crowe is a professor at the department of mechanical and materials engineering at Washington State University.

Global Federal Credit Union has announced the following scholarship winners:

Jennifer Purdie, Rogers High School, and Kristopher Blume, Medical Lake High School, were recipients of the Mary Milla Scholarship.

David Weber, Medical Lake High School, and Elizabeth Voogd, Shadle Park High School, received the Merle Brumgard Memorial Scholarships.

The Inland Northwest Car Club Scholarship Fund has awarded six scholarships to Inland Northwest students during the NSRA Nationals at the Spokane Interstate Fairgrounds.

The students, each receiving $500 scholarships, are: Steve Stromberger, Scott Dashiell, Jennifer Endes, Dawn Pietz, Randy Harris, and Daniel Kirtein.
