‘L’S’ Point Chiefs To A ‘W’ Leeb, Lemanowicz And Leonov Power Spokane Past Seattle

The Spokane Chiefs relied on their “L connection” - Leeb, Lemanowicz and Leonov - to start them on their way to a “W” Wednesday night in the Arena.

Greg Leeb scored first, Dmitri Leonov added a goal and an assist and David Lemanowicz shut out the Seattle Thunderbirds for 39 minutes in the Chiefs’ 5-2 win before 4,281.

The Chiefs improved to 3-1 heading into Friday night’s game here with the Portland Winter Hawks.

Trent Whitfield scored in his fourth straight game and rookie Derek Schutz notched his first WHL goal before Seattle could get one by Chiefs goaltender Lemanowicz.

By the time Joe Pankratz scored late with the Thunderbirds on the power play, Spokane led comfortably 4-1.

Rookie Patrick Markleau made it 4-2 in the third period but Spokane’s Jay Bertsch answered with an empty net goal at 18:56.

Brent Ascroft scored three goals and assisted on the game winner as the Tri-City Americans beat the Portland Winter Hawks 5-4 in a Western Hockey League game Wednesday night.

Dave Scatchard scored two for Portland as the Hawks slipped to a 2-2 record.
