Car Wash Delays 500

Compiled From Wire Services

Rain washed out first-round qualifying for the UAW-GM Quality 500 on Thursday for the second consecutive day.

“The good news is this is supposed to all clear out, and by tomorrow we should be OK for the rest of the weekend,” NASCAR spokesman Kevin Triplett said in announcing the latest postponement. The net effect of the two postponements is that this week’s Winston Cup and Grand National schedules will resemble those at virtually every other stop for stock car racing’s top two circuits.

The weekend schedules traditionally are comprised of first-round qualifying on Fridays for Winston Cup cars and fullfield qualifying for the Grand National cars, a second round of Winston Cup qualifying and the Grand National race on Saturdays, and the Winston Cup race on Sundays.
