Davenport Rebounds For Berth In Neb District Volleyball Play

Davenport, unaccustomed to fighting for survival, battled back from a one-set deficit Thursday to earn third seed in next week’s Northeast B District Volleyball Tournament.

Victorious over Almira/Coulee-Hartline earlier in the day, the sixth-seeded Grizzlies advanced by downing Odessa 7-15, 15-10 and 15-9 in the Bi-County League Tournament at Odessa. Odessa and ACH will fight it out for fourth seed Saturday before Wilbur-Creston and Reardan, the league’s top two teams, play for first seed.

Odessa and ACH stayed alive with victories over Ritzville. The Broncos were eliminated.

Frontier League

East Valley wrapped up second place with a victory at Cheney as the regular season came to an end for all but two teams.

The Knights overcame a slow start to prevail 3-15, 15-6, 15-4, 15-12 and finish with a 9-3 record. Sarah Parsley’s nine kills and 10 blocks led East Valley. Cheney concluded its season 3-9, 7-15.

Colville earned a fifth-place finish by thumping winless Riverside 15-8, 15-2, 15-7.

West Valley and fourth-place Pullman, which can tie the Eagles for third, will play the regular-season finale Saturday at West Valley.

Unbeaten league champion Clarkston (12-0) will be the host team for the District 7-AA Tournament next Friday and Saturday. The Bantams will face West Valley or Pullman in the first round. East Valley and West Valley or Pullman will meet in the other match.

Whitman County

Andee Schmick and Staci Garrett had seven and six kills respectively as St. John-Endicott earned the first seed for the league tournament by whipping Colton 15-7 and 15-11, at Oakesdale.

Colton receives the second seed.
