Man Killed In Dispute Over Target Practice

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Portland man was shot and killed and a 15-year-old girl injured in a dispute with a man who had been practicing target shooting.

Robert Rodman, 43, was shot Saturday after he confronted Duane Koennecke of North Plains, Washington County Sheriff’s deputies said.

Koennecke and his two young sons had been shooting rifles near the Tualatin river on property owned by Koennecke’s family, deputies said. Rodman, his son and some friends had been having a picnic nearby.

The two men got into a physical fight that was broken up by bystanders. Moments later, witnesses said, Koennecke returned with a rifle and another confrontation broke out.

Rodman was shot several times and died at the scene.

Wendy Adams of Forest Grove, who had been standing behind Rodman, also was shot. She was treated for an injury that authorities said was not life-threatening.

Koennecke, 36, was arrested Sunday for investigation of murder. He was being held without bail at the Washington County Jail.
