Don’t Count On Cunningham To Hook Up With Ryan Again

From Wire Reports

The Randall Cunningham trade talks halted abruptly Tuesday as both the Eagles and Arizona Cardinals appeared eager to bury the distracting speculation - at least for the time being.

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, who did not deny that he had contacted Arizona about a possible deal for the controversial 32-year-old quarterback, said Tuesday night that both he and coach Ray Rhodes met with Cunningham on Tuesday to assure him of their continued support.

While the Eagles’ front office was squelching the talk, Cardinals coach Buddy Ryan, who coached Cunningham in Philadelphia, was quoted by at least one newspaper as saying the Eagles were willing to deal Cunningham for a first- or second-round choice.

Boselli still ailing

Jacksonville’s Tony Boselli, who suffered a knee injury in the early days of training camp and has been sidelined for nearly eight weeks, was originally scheduled to return this week against the Jets. However, he is still doing only limited work in practice, and his return doesn’t seem imminent.

Meanwhile, Jacksonville QB Steve Beuerlein, who suffered a strained medial collateral ligament in his right knee last Sunday, is doubtful for Sunday’s game.

Harper’s return uncertain

Tampa Bay’s $10.6 million man is eager to start earning his paycheck by sprinting downfield, catching passes and scoring touchdowns for the Buccaneers.

But Alvin Harper can’t say just when that will be.

Hobbled by ankle, foot and knee injuries since the second week of training camp, the speedy receiver has spent almost as much time in the whirlpool as he has on the field for his new team.

After missing one game in four years with the Dallas Cowboys, Harper already has sat out two with the Bucs, who signed the prized free agent to a four-year contract.

Harper, who sprained his right ankle in practice two weeks ago, hopes to return to the lineup Sunday against the Bears.

Moon’s wife, child subpoenaed

The wife and 7-year-old son of Minnesota Vikings quarterback Warren Moon have been subpoenaed to appear at Moon’s arraignment on charges of assaulting her.

Moon, 38, is accused of hitting his wife, Felicia, in the head and choking her at their Missouri City home, 14 miles southwest of Houston. Police say Moon then pursued his wife, 39, in a high-speed car chase.

Moon’s arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday in Richmond in adjacent Fort Bend County, where district attorney John Healey decided to proceed with the case despite Moon’s wife saying she wished not to file charges.
