Mariners Receive Keagle From Padres

From Staff And Wire Reports

The Seattle Mariners announced Saturday they have acquired minor-league pitcher Greg Keagle from the San Diego Padres as the player to be named later in a July 31 trade.

The trade sent left-hander Ron Villone and outfielder Marc Newfield to San Diego in exchange for pitcher Andy Benes.

Keagle, 24, split the 1995 season between the Padres’ Double-A Memphis (Tenn.) and Triple-A Las Vegas clubs. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound right-hander posted a combined 11-15 record with a 4.71 ERA in 29 games.

Keagle pitched for the Spokane Indians and manager Tim Flannery in 1993. In 15 starts, Keagle had a 3-3 record with a 3.25 ERA. Keagle started the Indians’ final home game during their 35-41 season.
