Dollar Hits 15-Month High Vs. Yen

Traders pushed the dollar to its highest level against the yen in more than 15 months on Tuesday, betting that a long-awaited Japanese stimulus package and expected attempts to boost the dollar would work in their favor.

The dollar also rose against most other major currencies, including the German mark, which drifted upward with the dollar without much else to guide it.

The dollar hit an intraday high of 104.64 Japanese yen, not seen since June 7, 1994, when the dollar hit 105.33 yen.

In late New York trading, the dollar ended at 104.63 yen, up from 103.35 yen Monday. The dollar also barely rose to 1.4897 German marks from 1.4824 marks.
