Ferris Bumps G-Prep Out Of Second Place

Gonzaga Prep dropped below second place in the Greater Spokane League girls soccer standings for the first time in four years as Ferris goalkeeper Ida Hardin and the visiting Saxons shut out the Bullpups 1-0 on Friday.

Ferris (5 regulation wins, 0 overtime wins, 0 overtime losses, 1 regulation loss) and G-Prep (4-0-0-2) combined for just nine shots on goal, with Megan Cummings’ breakaway score at 45:00 serving as the game’s only offensive highlight.

Angela Harrison had one save for the Bullpups.

At Mead, Stacey Clinesmith recorded two goals and an assist as the Panthers downed Central Valley 5-0 to remain unbeaten.

Mead (5-0-0-0) goalie Gina Hopoi had four saves, and the first-place Panthers outshot the Bears 21-5.

Danielle Zelinski, Kellie Leaf and Jaclyn Burton accounted for Mead’s other scores.

At Shadle Park, Kristen Hawley had two goals and Jenn Hutchison added two assists as the Highlanders defeated Rogers 3-1.

Shadle scored all three of its goals during a 20-second span in the second half. Rogers scored its goal off a Leanne Johnston penalty kick.

At University, Meagan Black and Emily Steunkel each scored as U-Hi defeated Lewis and Clark 2-0.

Heather Beach had three saves for the Titans.

GSL volleyball

Ingrid Lindeblad had 15 assists and two blocks to lift Lewis and Clark over Mead 15-13, 15-5, 15-13.

The Tigers withstood Panther rallies in games one and three to improve their league record to 4-1. Mead dropped to 3-3.

In the third game, the Panthers came back from a 12-8 deficit to knot the game at 13 before Lindeblad and Erin Naipo tallied game-ending kills.

Jessica Sanborn had eight kills, five blocks and two aces for Mead.
