Family Mourns Slaughtered Pet Pig

From Staff And Wire Reports

Despite an outpouring of support from friends and neighbors, the Siburg family is still reeling from the loss of their 350-pound pet pig, which was dragged behind a truck and butchered.

“We’re really not OK,” Jan Siburg said. “In plenty of time, yes. I still cry every night.”

The carcass of the pregnant pig, named Star, was found Wednesday in a wooded area near Lakebay. It had been dragged behind a truck for 4-1/2 miles.

Two men, Huey Henson, 65, and Steven Valley, 38, have been arrested on charges of theft, burglary and cruelty to animals.

Siburg said the hardest part has been watching the ordeal take its toll on her 5-year-old daughter Carlie, who considered Star her favorite pet pig.

“She was mad about the bad

guys,” Siburg said. “She said they should go to the store and buy their own meat.”

Star’s carcass was taken to a Port Orchard butcher who was able to salvage some of the meat, Siburg said.

“We told him to wrap up whatever is salvageable and give it to the food bank,” Siburg said. “That was kind of hard.”
