Crashed Copter Found In Puget Sound

Associated Press

The wreckage of an Airlift Northwest helicopter was found just an hour after Navy technology was enlisted in the search, more than two weeks after the aircraft went down off Bainbridge Island, officials said Friday.

The helicopter was found after a Navy ship equipped with side-scanning sonar went to the scene Thursday, National Transportation Safety Board investigator Debra Eckrote said.

All three people aboard the helicopter - two nurses summoned to help a pregnant woman and the pilot - were killed when it crashed Sept. 11 and sank in 750 feet of water.
