Rep. Dorr Announces Re-Election Bid

Already facing one challenger, Fourth District state Rep. Tom Dorr announced Thursday that he will seek re-election.

“I still believe that Idaho’s families need conservative, accurate representation in the Legislature,” said Dorr, 32, “and your voice is heard a lot better when you’re in the majority party.”

Earlier this week, Wallace’s Larry Watson announced that he’s challenging Dorr. Watson said he would bring a more moderate, common-sense approach to government.

Dorr scored an upset victory two years ago, beating nine-term state Rep. Lou Horvath, a Democrat and retired teacher.

Dorr this year introduced legislation pushing for medical savings accounts for state workers. He drew fire for voting against a property tax relief plan that would have replaced some college funds with liquor tax revenue. He said he was voting on moral grounds that liquor should not be linked to education.

“Owning a small business, I understand the advantage this kind of medical coverage can be to both the state of Idaho and the employees,” said Dorr, who owns a Post Falls trucking company.

Dorr pledged to push for lower taxes, saying it would be the best way to stimulate economic growth. He also pledged to support better education.
