Dodgers’ Mound Covers Globe

Associated Press

The American pastime has a global reach for the Los Angeles Dodgers, who have pitchers from five nations in their starting rotation, and broadcasts in four languages.

When Chan Ho Park was the Dodgers’ starting and winning pitcher Thursday in a 5-0 victory over Florida, the game was broadcast live in his native South Korea.

The broadcasts of games pitched for the Dodgers by 1995 N.L. rookie-of-the-year Hideo Nomo have been televised live in his native Japan.

The Dodgers’ Spanish broadcasts cover the home countries of Ismael Valdes (Mexico) and Pedro Astacio (Dominican Republic).

And listeners in his hometown of Walnut Creek, Calif., can hear English broadcasts of games pitched by Tom Candiotti.

The Dodgers say the Elias Sports Bureau has confirmed the five-man rotation from different nations is a “first” in major league baseball.

The Dodgers had two Dominicans in the rotation until Ramon Martinez went on the disabled list this week with a groin injury and was replaced by Park.
