Eighth-Inning Homer Lifts Lmu Past Gonzaga, 11-10

College baseball/softball

Kalalea Montgomery’s three-run homer in the top of the eighth inning Saturday broke a tie and visiting Loyola Marymount (18-30, 11-7) hung on to beat Gonzaga 11-10 in the first game of a West Coast Conference doubleheader at August/A.R.T. Stadium.

The second game was halted after one inning because of rain and will be resumed at 11:30 this morning with LMU batting in the top of the second. A regularly-scheduled nine-inning game will follow.

Jason Uberuaga of GU (13-22, 1-13) tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with a one-out, two-run homer to left off Paul Casillas (2-0), who eventually earned the win.

Trailing 11-8, the Bulldogs rallied in the ninth with two runs, but Donnie Murrell’s groundout ended the game with two Zags on base.
