CV Hands Volleyball Reins Back To Former Coach

Bernie Hite, who coached volleyball at Central Valley from 1983-92, has been named interim coach for the upcoming season.

Hite replaces Laurie Henry, who took a teaching and coaching position at Ferris.

“I’m not pulling a Magic Johnson,” said Hite. “I told activities coordinator Jay Rydell I’d accept it provided they not offer it again.”

Hite had resigned after 10 years as CV’s head coach to spend more time with his family. His teams had reached the playoffs six times, finishing second twice and third twice in the GSL.

“I’m not an interim guy who doesn’t care. I do care,” said Hite. “I kind of feel obligated to the program to help it along and when I’m done I’ll have had something to offer these kids.”

Spokane golfers advance

Two of Spokane’s remaining three entrants in the PNWGA Junior Boys’ Amateur golf tournament advanced to today’s third round at Rock Creek Country Club in Portland, Ore., as Kyle Schwahn defeated Woodinville’s Sean Peterson 1-up after 20 holes and Reid Hatley beat Chris Reinke, from Ashton, Calif., 5 and 3.

Corey Pugh was eliminated, along with Coeur d’Alene’s Danny Potter.

In the Girls’ Amateur at Lakeland Village Golf Club in Allyn, Washington, Spokane’s Bridget Johnson lost to Mill Creek’s Leah Tambellini 3 and 2.
