Argonne Road North Of Trent Reopens As Detour Routes Change

Jeannette Crowl stopped cars driving along Buckeye Wednesday morning while Holly Ferguson waved cars south on Argonne.

The Harcon Inc. flaggers were alerting drivers to a change in the Argonne Road detour route.

Traffic is now routed along the original detour, meaning northbound cars use Trent to reconnect with Argonne, while cars heading south use Trent and the Montgomery/Dale detour to rejoin Argonne.

Argonne was reopened north of Trent about 10 a.m. Wednesday. Buckeye and Dale were closed to through traffic at the same time.

Large concrete barriers protecting Millwood Elementary also were removed from Buckeye. A stop sign was added on Buckeye at Argonne.

“Be sure to use the stop sign,” Crowl told a woman in a charcoalcolored Oldsmobile Cutlass Siera. “And, use (Argonne) when you come back.”

A line of cars 10 deep stacked up behind her.

“Straight ahead!” Ferguson yelled to motorists from the corner of Argonne and Buckeye.

Cars are still being routed onto Montgomery/Dale to avoid the Argonne Underpass project south of the railroad tracks. The underpass is scheduled to open Oct. 14.

Traffic was routed around Albertsons via Dale and Buckeye for several months while crews lowered Trent at the Argonne intersection to meet the road coming under the underpass. The Argonne intersection north of the railroad tracks also was rebuilt.

The detour at Dale and Buckeye was cut through a portion of grocery store property. That corner will be rebuilt, and the corner will be returned to pre-detour condition.

Sewer work completed

Crews finished installing sewer lines this week along Sprague Avenue.

The $2 million project will bring sewer service to more than 330 residents and businesses near Thierman and Sprague.

Crews closed lanes on Sprague and began work on July 31. The project slowed as many as 40,000 motorists which travel that stretch of Sprague daily.

Weather coating Bigelow Gulch

Road crews closed a portion of Bigelow Gulch last week to apply a sealer that will protect the road from severe weather, a county spokesman said.

The Valley-North Side commuter road was closed during daylight hours Tuesday and Wednesday from Argonne east to Forker Road.

The sealer was applied Tuesday. Loose gravel from the sealer process was cleaned off Wednesday.
