Michael Dickerson, one of three juniors on a senior-less team, scored 30 points Monday night to lead No. 8 Arizona to an 83-78 men’s basketball victory over No. 13 Texas.

It was the first loss for the tough-rebounding Longhorns (4-1), who hours earlier had gained their highest ranking since February 1982, when they were 12th.

Dickerson had 15 points in each half, coming within one point of his career high, and was 10 of 18 from the field, including 3 of 5 from 3-point range.

Heralded freshman Mike Bibby had 14 points, five assists and a school-record eight steals for the Wildcats (4-1), while A.J. Bramlett scored 13 points and Bennett Davison had 12 points and eight rebounds.

Ron Mercer and Derek Anderson each scored 19 points and the Wildcats (6-1) made five straight 3-pointers to start the game against the Raiders (1-1) in Lexington, Ky.

(25) Boston College 59, Vanderbilt 52

Daune Woodward’s 15 points and Danya Abrams’ 12 led the Eagles (4-1) to a victory over the Commodores (3-2). Boston College received 32 points from its bench. Austin Bates paced Vanderbilt with 15 points.

Ed Gray scored 16 points and California (5-2) held Mississippi State (2-4) to five field goals and 22-percent shooting in the first half en route to a 78-45 victory in Landover, Md.
