Hole In Earth Dam Repaired After Homes Evacuated

Associated Press

Muddy water in a creek led some Gig Harbor-area residents to discover a hole opening up in an earthen dam.

Several homes downstream were evacuated Wednesday while the fire department called in a backhoe. Pierce County supplied 400 cubic yards of rock to fill in a hole that had opened.

Crews finished the emergency work Thursday.

The dam, just off Ray Nash Drive Northwest near Whitmore Drive Northwest, holds about 12 million gallons of water.
