Some Charges Against Harrelson Dropped

Compiled From Wire Services

District Attorney Terence Hallinan has dropped the most serious charges against actor Woody Harrelson and eight other demonstrators, saying their Save the Redwoods protest that tied up traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge last month was an act of free speech, not a tussle with police.

Hallinan announced Monday that the nine protesters, who created havoc Nov. 23 when they scaled the bridge’s towers, will no longer face charges of impeding police officers in their duties.

But each still faces two misdemeanor counts of trespassing with a maximum penalty of six months in jail and a $500 fine.
