Ex-Heavyweight Standout Gets 16-Month Jail Term

Compiled From Wire Services

Former heavyweight contender Henry Tillman was sentenced Tuesday to 16 months in prison for using a fake credit card at a casino in nearby Inglewood.

Tillman, 34, used the fake Discover card in September 1994 to get $800 at the Hollywood Park Casino.

Tillman, of Diamond Bar, Calif., pleaded guilty last July 17. Charges that he falsified a driver’s license and used a “cloned” cellular phone were dropped under the plea agreement.

Tillman’s lawyer asked that his client be allowed to change his plea last month, but Superior Court Judge William Hollingsworth Jr., denied the motion Tuesday.

Tillman was sentenced to probation in 1994 after pleading guilty to passing a bad credit card at a Gardena card club.

Before turning pro, he won a gold medal in the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
