Development Amendment Rejected

From Staff Reports

The city is unlikely to turn down development on the basis of overcrowded schools, if a decision this week by the Post Falls Planning and Zoning Commission is any indication.

Council member Gus Johnson had suggested amending the city’s land use plan to give city officials the option of rejecting a development if adequate school facilities are not available for new students.

But at a public hearing Tuesday, most testimony was in opposition to the change. The commission unanimously rejected the amendment.

None of the other proposed amendments generated as much interest at the hearing.

The matter will go before the City Council, but city officials plan to postpone the issue until after the March 26 school bond election.
