Colton Knocks Off Pomeroy; Will Face Sje For District Title

Colton entered new territory on Saturday, advancing to its first girls District 9-B Tournament championship game and its first shot at the State B Tournament.

Emma Giden scored 12 second-half points as the Wildcats (15-9) rallied for a 36-32 semifinal win over Blue Mountain League champ Pomeroy at Walla Walla.

Mindy John scored 12 for the Pirates, who played for the district title last year. Back in the title game is St. John-Endicott, a 66-40 semifinal winner over DeSales.

The title game, for one of two state berths, is set for 6 p.m. Friday at WSU.

In Saturday’s loser-out games, Asotin edged 1995 state runner-up Tekoa-Oakesdale 56-54 and Garfield-Palouse beat Waitsburg 59-37.

The tournament continues Wednesday at WSU with a pair of loser-out games: Asotin (15-7) vs. Pomeroy (16-5) and DeSales (14-7) vs. Gar-Pal (12-13).
