Khmer Rouge Suspected In Killing

The Oscar-winning Cambodian slain in Los Angeles may have been killed by the same Communist group that brutally ruled Cambodia two decades ago, his brother said Wednesday.

Chan Sarun, 43, said he believed his brother, Dr. Haing S. Ngor, was murdered because of his anti-Khmer Rouge political efforts.

“He often told me that Khmer Rouge people in the United States were unhappy with his activities against them,” said Sarun, a director of forestry at the Ministry of Agriculture.

Ngor, who won an Academy Award for the 1984 movie “The Killing Fields,” was found shot to death beside his parked car Sunday night.
