Kenya Wilkins had 16 points and seven assists, leading Oregon past Oregon State 70-59 Sunday in Eugene, Ore., in a sluggish Pac-10 opener for both teams.

The Oregon point guard scored 11 in the second half as the Ducks (1-0, 8-4) finally pulled away for their second victory over the Beavers in eight days.

The Beavers (0-1, 2-8) cut the lead to 35-33 with 14:49 to play on Sonny Benjamin’s 3-pointer. But Wilkins scored on a driving layup, then stole the ball and tossed it to Jamar Curry for a layup that put Oregon ahead 39-33.

The Beavers still were down only 43-38 with 10:57 to play when they were called for a technical foul for having six players on the court because Sasa Petrovic didn’t realize he was supposed to leave the game.

Wilkins made both free throws, then Jamal Lawrence made another on the Ducks’ next possession to boost the lead to 46-38.

The Horned Frogs, after staging a frantic rally to knot the game in regulation, outlasted the Bobcats in three overtime periods for the victory in Fort Worth, Texas.

Texas Christian, on the verge of seeing their nine-game home court winning streak snapped, got a 3-pointer from Anthony Burks to even the score at 80 with 37 seconds remaining in regulation. Montana State’s final shot was batted away by Saipele Tuialili at the buzzer.

Quadre Lollis, who topped all rebounders with 15, also led the Bobcats’ scoring with 23 points. All five MSU starters finished in double figures.

Stephon Marbury went on a scoring tear in the second half, getting 23 of his 27 points and leading the Yellow Jackets to the victory over the Blue Devils in Durham, N.C..

Before going off on the Duke defense, Marbury spent most of the first half on the perimeter. He hit only two of the seven shots he attempted as Duke’s man-to-man defense slowed him and most of the Yellow Jackets for about 17 minutes.

But he scored Georgia Tech’s first eight points of the second half, partly from the perimeter and sometimes penetrating the interior of Duke’s defense. He finished at 8-for-10 in the period, including three 3-pointers to tie his season high.

Matt Harpring scored 23 points for the Yellow Jackets. Chris Collins led Duke with 21 points.
