Michelle Holcomb Chosen Cadet Of The Semester

Michelle Holcomb, Spokane, was recently selected Cadet of the Semester from the freshman Army ROTC class at Pacific Lutheran University. She was judged on her appearance, conduct and knowledge of the Army. Holcomb, daughter of Janice Holcomb and Keith Holcomb, both of Spokane, graduated from Ferris High School and attends PLU under an ROTC nursing scholarship.

Champion Electric Light Designs and the Pullman Chamber of Commerce announced the winners of the Pullman’s first outdoor lighting contest. The following won first place awards for “Brightest on the Palouse” for their neighborhood through a majority vote:

Ed and Cyndee Engelhardt, Pioneer Hill; Ruben and Donna Fisher, Military Hill; Mike and Vivian Werner, Sunnyside Hill; and Melissa Clark, College Hill.

Second-place awards went to the following:

Jerry Finch, Pioneer Hill; and Douglas and Pamela Soltis, Sunnyside Hill.

Ten area students attending Central Washington University have qualified for the 1995 fall quarter honor roll. Students must have a 3.5 or better grade-point average while carrying at least 12 credit hours:

Stacie Kudamatsu, Cheney and John McMurtery, Spokane, both received a perfect 4.0 average.

Others on the honor roll were:

Jay P. Roulston, Colbert; Barton J. Orth and Jeffrey M. Dean, both of Nine Mile Falls; and Nicole M. Redl, Shane A. Trout, Carrie L. Youngland, Alissa Schwin and Jonathan C. Bailey; all of Spokane.

Richard Dalke,Spokane, recently graduated from Continental Auctioneers School of Mankato, Minnesota. Graduates acquire knowledge and skills to recommend the auction method when a client wants to obtain the best possible price in the shortest time.

Timothy Sarbaugh, Gonzaga University associate history professor, has received a grant from the Irish American Cultural Institute’s Irish Research Funds to further study the Irish famine.
