Highlights from the past week in the Idaho Legislature:

They said it

“It’s just too easy to get a divorce.”

Rep. Tom Dorr, R- Post Falls, on his legislation to make divorce in Idaho more difficult.

Votes

Confidentiality: The Idaho Conservation League proposed changes to the Environmental Audits Act that would give companies less confidentiality. The Senate Health and Welfare committee voted 5-4 to refer the proposal to the Attorney General’s office for an official statement on its legality. Sen. Mary Lou Reed, D-Coeur d’Alene and Sen. Clyde Boatright, R-Rathdrum, were in favor of referral. Sen. Gordon Crow, R-Hayden, opposed.

Over 75: The House Transportation and Defense committee voted unanimously to kill a bill that would require drivers over the age of 75 to take a skills test before renewing their license. Reps. Don Pischner, R-Coeur d’Alene, Hilde Kellogg, R-Post Falls, and Marvin Vandenburg, D-Coeur d’Alene, voted to keep the bill from getting out of committee.

Welfare reform: A package of welfare reforms was unveiled in the Senate Health and Welfare Committee. North Idaho lawmakers joining the unanimous vote to introduce the bills included Crow, Reed, and Boatright.
