Teachers To Learn Environmental Lesson

From Staff And Wire Reports

An AmeriCorps volunteer and state forester are the instructors for two Project Learning Tree workshops, an environmental education course for teachers scheduled for February and March.

Lisa Kirchhoffer, an AmeriCorps volunteer and environmental educator at Heyburn State Park, and Mick Schanilec, an Idaho Department of Lands forester, will teach the course. Teachers will learn to present an environmental curriculum to preschool through 12th-grade students.

Project Learning Tree uses the forest as a way of helping students gain an awareness of the world and their place in it.

The 14-hour workshop is scheduled for two sessions. The first is Feb. 23-24 at Ponderosa Elementary School in Post Falls. The second is March 15-16 in Plummer. One graduate credit from the University of Idaho is available for a $28 fee.

The application deadline for both workshops is Feb. 2. Call Kirchhoffer for more information at (208) 686-1048. , DataTimes
