Eugene Completes Sweep Of Spokane

With the help of 16 hits, the Eugene Emeralds defeated the Spokane Indians 13-3 Thursday night, sweeping the four-game series between the Northwest League teams.

Eugene led 4-3 in the bottom of the seventh before getting three runs on five hits to put the game out of Spokane’s reach at 7-3. Among the hits were three straight doubles.

In the bottom of the eighth, Eugene (11-6) sent 11 batters to the plate and managed to score six runs on just two hits. The Emeralds took advantage of four walks, three wild pitches and a hit batter.

Everyone in Eugene’s lineup got at least a hit in the game.

Spokane (6-11) starter Ethan Stein took the loss. His record fell to 0-3. Eugene’s Andrew Cochran got the win to move to 1-0.

Spokane managed to fight back from a 3-1 deficit when Kit Pellow’s double to the gap in left-center field scored Kenderick Moore from first base to tie the score at 3-3 in the top of the fifth.

Before Pellow’s hit, Moore got a base hit to drive in Brett Taft to cut the lead to 3-2.

In the sixth, Eugene got the game-winner when Spokane catcher Juan Robles dropped a perfect strike from left fielder Brandon Berger, allowing Mark DeRosa to score from second. Steve Hacker singled to drive in DeRosa, who was at second to make the score 4-3.
