Man Arrested In String Of Fires Sparked By Fireworks
A 27-year-old Spokane man has been arrested in a string of six grass fires that apparently were started by fireworks thrown out of a car on Interstate 90, Grant County Sheriff Bill Wiester said.
Washington State Patrol troopers arrested Colby Jones in Adams County on Tuesday after a motorist reported having seen another motorist throwing fireworks out of a car near Moses Lake, Wiester said. A large quantity of illegal fireworks was found in the car.
Jones was booked into the Adams County Jail for investigation of negligent driving and second-degree arson, Wiester said.
Firefighters responded to a series of grass fires Tuesday afternoon along a 90-mile stretch of the highway between the Vantage area and Ritzville.
“Fortunately, only minor damage occurred,” Wiester said.
