Woods To Earn Medal As Low Amateur

Associated Press

Two-time U.S. Amateur champion Eldrick “Tiger” Woods, the only amateur to make the cut at this year’s British Open, will collect the traditional silver medal for being the championship’s low amateur by finishing his round today.

Woods, 20, who recently completed his sophomore year at Stanford, has played in six majors and has made the cut in four of them.

Having opened with 75 on Thursday, Woods climbed all the way to 4 under for the tournament when he birdied three of his first seven holes Saturday, but he shot 2 over on the back nine for 70.

He is tied for 29th and could register his best finish in a professional event. He was 41st at the 1994 Masters.
