Area Students Selected For People To People Trip

The following delegation of high school students has been selected by the People to People Student Ambassador Program to visit Greece and Italy this summer.

The students and their high schools are:

From Spokane:

Lisa Corrado, Mead; Michael Damascus, Amber Marquez and Harrison Grafos, all from University; Denise Hartley, Jenina Varney and Heather Wright, all from Central Valley; Casey Laughary, Shadle Park; Chad Engstrom and John Moore, Gonzaga Prep; and Katie Querna and Zachary George, both of Lewis and Clark.

From Eastern Washington:

Jesse Allison, Warden; and Keely Carroll and Rosanna Ensley, both of Colfax.

Betty Pico, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Allen, Spokane, received the Outstanding Academic Performance Award from the social science department of the Clatsup Community College, Astoria, Ore.

She is a 1963 graduate of the Sacred Heart School of Nursing.

The following students have each been awarded $3,500 Killin Academic Scholarship for the 1996-97 academic year at Eastern Washington University:

Sommer Kraft, Cheney, is a 1996 graduate of Cheney High School and will be a freshman in the fall, planning to study psychology.

She is the daughter of Andrea Kraft, Cheney, and Wayne Kraft, Spokane.

Walter Skidmore, Spokane, a 1996 graduate of West Valley High School, will be a freshman in the fall, planning to study computer science. He is the son of Brenda and Steve Beaulieu, Spokane.

The following recent high school graduates were awarded scholarships by the Bloomsday Road Runners Club: Ashley Foianini, Ephrata (Wash.) High School; Dusty Patrick, Riverside High School; and Michael Dahl, Valley Christian School.

Benjamin Ross, a 1995 Ferris High School graduate, was recently selected as the recipient of a Graphic Communications Management Scholarship awarded by Pacific Printing Industries of Seattle.

He is a student at California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, Calif., and is the son of Alan and Leslie Ross, Spokane.

The Esther Reed Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution presented the Gold ROTC Medal to Christie Hume, a recent graduate of Eastern Washington University.

Hume received her commission as a lieutenant to serve in the Navy.

Avi Tanners, son of Dina Tanners and Paul Tanners, Spokane, recently graduated from Wesleyan University, Middletown, Conn., with a major in computer science and mathematics.
