Anderson’s Homer Keys Orioles’ Win

Associated Press

American League

Brady Anderson moved into a tie for the majorleague lead with his 25th home run and David Wells earned his first win in a month as the Baltimore Orioles beat the Texas Rangers 3-2 Thursday at Baltimore.

Rafael Palmeiro also homered for the Orioles. He and Anderson hit solo shots in the third inning to give Baltimore a 3-2 lead.

Anderson’s homer tied him with Cleveland’s Albert Belle. Anderson also made a key play defensively by throwing out the potential tying run at the plate in the eighth.

Blue Jays 1, A’s 0 Oakland

Pat Hentgen allowed two hits over eight innings, and Ed Sprague tripled home Joe Carter for the game’s only run as Toronto won its fourth straight game with a win over Oakland.

Angels 10, Brewers 3 Milwaukee

California’s Randy Velarde and Don Slaught drove in three runs each as the streaking Angels routed Milwaukee.

The Angels have won 11 of 12, but their previous 10 victories had been comebacks. This time, they scored early and often, getting two runs in the second, three in the third and four in the fourth.

Twins 7, Tigers 3 Detroit

Cecil Fielder’s first Tiger Stadium homer in a month and a half wasn’t enough to prevent Detroit from losing its fifth straight game, this time against Minnesota.

Indians 5, Red Sox 4 Cleveland

Kenny Lofton singled home Jeromy Burnitz with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving Cleveland a win over Boston.

The Indians have won 13 straight against the Red Sox.

Clearing the bases

Roger Clemens moved past Sam McDowell into 23rd place on the career strikeout list with 2,455. McDowell, who pitched for Cleveland, had 2,453.
