Flutie Signs With Argos

Compiled From Wire Services

The Canadian Football League’s flagging flagship franchise signed the league’s marquee player when the Toronto Argonauts gave Doug Flutie a package of incentives, signing bonuses and a personal services agreement that reportedly could net him nearly $2 million over two years.

“From a league standpoint, there was some pressure,” the Heisman Trophy winner said after signing the deal at Boston’s posh Top of the Hub restaurant. “Everybody kind of pointed their finger that way and made it as easy as possible for me to go to Toronto.”

While refusing to confirm financial details, agent Jack Mula said Flutie is the highest-paid player in the league and perhaps the highest-paid in CFL history.
