German Tightrope Walker Dies After Fall

Compiled From Wire Services

A tightrope walker died Friday, hours after losing his balance and falling 50 feet from a wire stretched more than one-third of a mile over downtown Baden-Baden.

Lutz Schreyer, 26, fell in front of about 15,000 people who gathered Thursday night to watch the Traber family, a group of well-known high-wire artists.

The tragedy occurred as he following Falco Traber on a wire that stretched 2,116 feet from a church to a spa.

Traber just completed his walk when Schreyer, wearing a helmet with a video camera to record the feat, lost his balance shortly before reaching the end.
