Poll: Clinton Could Lose To Dole

Compiled From Wire Services

President Clinton’s approval ratings jumped a few notches in the latest CNN-Time magazine poll, but more than half the respondents say it’s possible retiring Sen. Bob Dole can defeat him in November.

Meanwhile, a Newsweek poll reaffirmed previous findings that Dole’s decision to give up his Senate seat has moved few voters.

Clinton’s approval rating was 56 percent, according to the CNN-Time poll released Saturday, up from 51 percent in a May 8-9 poll.

In addition, 60 percent of respondents had a favorable impression of Clinton, while 51 percent held similar views of Dole.

Regardless of who they would choose for president, 55 percent of respondents said it’s possible that Dole can defeat the Democratic president in November, up from 53 percent in last week’s poll.
