Revised Water Plan Subject Of Hearing

From Staff And Wire Reports

The plan that governs water rights, irrigation, well construction, changes to stream channels and other water issues is under revision.

A public hearing on the draft State Water Plan is scheduled for 7 p.m., Nov. 19 in the Kootenai County Extension Office community room, 106 E. Dalton.

The plan is administered by the Idaho Department of Water Resources.

Legislation in 1976 created the plan, which is updated every five years. The Idaho Water Resources Board is collecting public comments on the latest revision.

The plan is a collection of general policies that govern the development, allocation, conservation and protection of water resources across the state.

The board also is considering adopting two new plans to guide management of the Eastern Snake Plain Aquifer and the South Fork Snake Basin.
