Home Sales Down Slightly

Fewer North Side homes sold last month than in October 1995, but the average price was up slightly over last year.

Last month, 182 North Side homes were sold, 13 fewer than in October 1995. The average price was $90,048, compared to $89,478 a year ago.

Homes are taking longer to sell this year. On the North Side, houses that sold in October were on the market an average of 76 days before selling, compared to 64 days last October. But real estate sales professionals are optimistic.

“We are seeing more people out there looking,” said Vic Plese, associate broker at Plese Realty. “If interest rates stay around 8 percent, or even come down a touch, we might see a little bit of a surge.”

In northwest Spokane, 122 homes sold this October, compared to 139 last year. The average price was $103,349, up from $99,957 last year. Houses stayed on the market about 67 days, the same as the year before.

In northeast Spokane, 60 homes sold last month, compared to 56 last year. But home prices dipped, down to $76,748 from $79,000 a year ago. Houses stayed on the market an average of 86 days this October, 61 days a year ago.

Home sales were liveliest in the northwest urban area, south of Francis Avenue and west of Division Street, where 75 homes sold in an average of 55 days. The average price was $75,132.

Sales were also brisk in the northwest suburban area, near Indian Trail and Five Mile Prairie, where 38 homes sold. The average sale price was $149,482. Homes were on the market an average of 81 days.

In the northeast suburban area, 10 homes sold at an average price of $136,770 after 93 days on the market.
