Fire In Tourist Hotel Kills 17, Injures 41 More

Compiled From Wire Services

A hotel fire in downtown Istanbul killed at least 17 people early Sunday, mostly tourists from Ukraine, the Anatolia news agency said.

The agency said 41 other guests suffered burns and other injuries in the fire at the Tozbey Hotel. Anatolia said most of the casualties were caused by smoke inhalation.

The city’s fire chief, Muhittin Solakoglu, said a short circuit could have caused the fire.
