The Ticker A Look Back At The Past Week On Wall Street

What’s hot

This is the week we stop and give thanks. It’s no different on Wall Street, with some even thankful for the two days of profit taking midweek. Then there’s the companies that just keep rolling along, like Walt Disney. Disney announced fourth-quarter earnings this week and they were up 27 percent. The stock rose Wednesday, was unchanged Friday, and finished the week at $73.87-1/2. … If you own stock in Vacation Break USA you should be thankful too. The developer of vacation properties reached a tentative agreement to merge with the Berkley Group, a North America timeshare developer. The news took Vacation Break up $6 on Wednesday and another $1.25 Friday. It ended the week at $18. … Owen Healthcare was saying thanks too, as the hospital pharmacy service provider was purchased by Cardinal Health for $27.25 a share. Owen’s stock jumped $8.75 Wednesday, another 75 cents Friday and is at $25.62-1/2.

What’s not

Les Schmidt of Mecon has reason to be thankful. Maybe not. Schmidt, Mecon president, was also named chief executive of the health care information company this week. The company’s third-quarter earnings, however, were nothing to brag about and the stock lost more than half its value this week, finishing at $6.75.
